In this life that we live
Given to us without our consent
Taken from us before we’re done
We’re tossed out into the fold
To spread our wings
To crash or fly
To reach new heights
Or plunge and die
Weathered into silence
Whispered into gold
We enter into the fold
Entangled in the breeze
Shivering in the cold
Like voices in the reeds
That ring like songs of old
There are dreams within dreams
And nightmares to which we give pause
There are fears that we face
And faces that we learn to fear
There’s a way to win the world over
To start anew with a fresh set of eyes
It’s what we choose to do
That takes us to new highs
